PhraseCrate is local-first. Your phrases, confirmed fill-field values, page-derived suggestions, and learning history stay in your browser. If you purchase or activate PhraseCrate Pro, only billing and license information is handled by Polar.
What PhraseCrate stores
PhraseCrate stores the following information in Chrome local storage on your device:
- phrases, names, and shortcuts that you create;
- the website hostname where a phrase is successfully inserted;
- local insertion counts and last-used timestamps used by Context Rank;
- fill-field names and values that you explicitly confirm and insert, with local usage counts and last-used timestamps.
How local data is used
Your saved phrases are used only to provide shortcut expansion, search, insertion, backup, and restore. Hostname and insertion metadata are used only to rank phrases that may be useful on the current website. Confirmed fill-field values are used only to predict values for the same field, with values previously used on the current website ranked first. When you open a fill-in phrase, PhraseCrate may temporarily inspect page labels, metadata, and short text values on your device to suggest possible field values. Page-derived suggestions are not stored unless you explicitly select one and confirm insertion. None of this data is transmitted.
What PhraseCrate does not collect
PhraseCrate does not collect or transmit phrases, page contents, messages, recipients, URL paths, URL query parameters, search history, or general browsing history. Except for fill-field values you explicitly confirm for local prediction, it does not store form contents. It does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or remote code.
Payments and license activation
PhraseCrate uses Polar as its merchant of record and license provider. If you choose to purchase PhraseCrate Pro, Polar processes your email address, payment details, order, and license key under Polar's own terms and privacy policy. PhraseCrate does not receive or store your payment card details.
When you activate or periodically validate a Pro license, PhraseCrate sends the license key, a randomly generated device identifier, and the PhraseCrate organization identifier to Polar. This information is used only to verify the license and enforce the permitted device limit. Phrase content, page content, browsing history, and learning data are never included.
Data sharing and sale
PhraseCrate does not sell or rent your data. Billing and license information is shared with Polar only when you purchase, activate, or validate PhraseCrate Pro. The developer cannot read your locally stored phrases or usage metadata.
PhraseCrate's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Website access
PhraseCrate runs on webpages so it can detect shortcuts, show the phrase launcher, suggest possible fill-in values when you explicitly choose a fill-in phrase, and insert the phrase you confirm into an active editable field. This access is used only for those user-facing functions.
Your controls
- Edit or delete individual phrases from the extension popup.
- Export and import phrase backups as JSON files.
- Reset Context Rank metadata and learned fill-field values without deleting phrases.
- Forget an individual learned fill-field value directly from the fill form.
- Remove locally stored extension data by uninstalling PhraseCrate.
Security
PhraseCrate does not operate a server for phrase content or learning data. License checks are sent directly from the extension to Polar over HTTPS. Keep exported JSON backups and your license key secure because they may contain private text or grant access to PhraseCrate Pro.
Changes to this policy
If PhraseCrate's data practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store privacy disclosures will be updated before the changed behavior is released.
